The Contemporary African Art Market is a fast-growing market sector, as evidenced by increased auction exposure and record-breaking auction prices for African artists, the increasing numbers of African artists represented by the major global galleries, the proliferation of art fairs dedicated to art from the Continent, and important museum exhibitions around the world featuring their work. Born and raised in Morocco, Touria El Glaoui completed her education in New York before beginning a career in the banking industry as a wealth management consultant. After 10 years in the field she relocated to London, where she initiated 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in 2013. She has since launched the fair in New York in 2015, and in Marrakech in 2018. 1-54 is now a world-leading platform dedicated to contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. Parallel to her career, Touria has organised and co-curated exhibitions of her father’s work, Moroccan artist Hassan El Glaoui, in London and Morocco. She has spoken widely and chaired numerous discussions on contemporary African art and women in leadership at leading institutions and events globally. Touria El Glaoui was listed amongst the 50 most powerful women in Africa by Jeune Afrique magazine in 2015, 2018, and 2019.

Mariane Ibrahim’s motivations have always been to inspire and nurture the flame fueled by Black art and hone it into something that is not just accepted in terms of its popularity, but in terms of its significance in giving a platform to worthy artists. Seven years after founding her namesake gallery in Seattle, Mariane Ibrahim officially launched her next space in Chicago in September 2019. Reflecting the diversity of communities globally, Mariane Ibrahim provides a boundless platform for innovative artistic voices fostering a multifaceted understanding of arts of the African Diaspora. Ibrahim is dedicated to providing platforms that bridge knowledge and facilitate increased participation of the African Diaspora, Latin American, women, and other under-recognized artists; including representation of Amoako Boafo, Clotilde Jime?nez, Florine De?mosthe?ne, Ayana V. Jackson, Lina Iris Viktor and most recently Jerrell Gibbs, Peter Uka, and Ian Mwesiga. In 2016, Mariane Ibrahim was named one of Artnet’s Dealers Under 40 to Watch and has been profiled in various outlets including the Financial Times, Artsy, and The Art Newspaper. Her curatorial prowess has been selected for special exhibitions at spaces including Ravelled Threads at Sean Kelly New York and Disembodiment at UTA Artist Space in Beverly Hills.

Giles Peppiatt has over twenty-five years’ experience in the art market. In 1993, he trained as an auctioneer and conducted his first sale in that year. In 1997, he qualified with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors as a “Chartered Arts & Antiques Surveyor.” Giles is the leading world expert on Modern and Contemporary African Art. In 2007, he established the first ever auctions devoted entirely to African artists “The South African Sale.” These auctions quickly became the highest grossing sales of South African art to be held anywhere in the world. In 2009, he started the Bonhams “Africa Now” sales of Modern and Contemporary African art and these are now the largest sales in this category. Bonhams now sell more art by value than any other auctioneer in this sector. Giles advises many institutions, collectors, and museums on their collections.

Kristy Bryce is an art advisor specializing in Post-War and Contemporary Art. Prior to opening her own advisory business in 2015, Kristy held Director positions at Eykyn Maclean and Craig Starr Gallery. Kristy is an Accredited Member of the Appraisers Association of America.
