This webinar will take a historic look at how the marketPainting
for Spanish Colonial art has developed. Where were
we forty years ago and where are we today? What
and who has driven these changes?

Topics will include recent hits and misses at auction, increasing institutional interest, museum exhibitions, curatorial positions and scholarship. Issues specific to this field such as national patrimony laws and the challenges of finding comparable works for appraisals and valuations will all be discussed.

Diana Bramham is Vice President and Specialist for Latin
American art and an auctioneer at Christie’s where she has
worked for the last ten years. During her tenure, Diana has
been instrumental in both the consignment and selling of
key works of Spanish Colonial art. She has had the privilege
to handle the sale of not only traditional Spanish Colonial
paintings, but also enconchados, coqueras and polychrome
sculptures. When not researching, writing about, valuing or
assessing for clients the merits of Spanish Colonial art, she
is busy consigning and selling modern and contemporary
Latin American art both privately and at auction. She has
been quoted in the New York Times, Barron’s, The Peak
Hong Kong among other publications. In addition to her
work in the art market, Diana has taught undergraduate
seminars and surveys in art history at Rutgers University
and Pratt Institute and continuing education courses at
Christie’s Education. Diana holds a BA in art history
from Wesleyan University and a Ph.D. in art history from
Rutgers University where her dissertation examined
19th-century traveler artists in Latin America.
