As the basis of every creative process, whether
the artist workein clay, paint or metal, in 1550
Giorgio Vasari claimed that drawing was indeed
the ‘the father of all our arts’: painting, sculpture
and architecture. While investigating the dual
significance of the Italian word ‘disegno’ in
the 16th century, which envelops both the physical
act of drawing and the creative concept of design,
this lecture will provide the tools for discussing
today’s role of drawing, addressing problems of
authorship, attribution and authenticity through
the lenses of most current market results.
