Appraiser's Statement

Margaret Smith is an Accredited Member of the Appraisers Association of America in the area of 19th Century European Art. Margaret has ten years of experience in the art world. She is currently an independent art advisor and appraiser based in New York. Margaret began her career at Sotheby’s New York in the 19th Century European Paintings department. Following her time at Sotheby’s, Margaret was with C2 Art Advisors, a Houston, Texas-based art advisory and appraisal firm, where she worked with private, corporate, and hospitality clients to buy and sell investment-level art and conduct appraisals. Margaret has a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and French, with Highest Distinction, from the University of Virginia and a Master of Arts in Fine and Decorative Art, with Distinction, from Sotheby’s Institute, London. Margaret completed the Comprehensive Appraisal Studies Program in 2020 and is compliant with USPAP. She serves on the University of Virginia Arts Council and the Steering Committee for the Menil Contemporaries at The Menil Collection, Houston.
