Bates Art Group is led by Michelle Conliffe, an art appraiser based in Birmingham, Michigan. Michelle is a Certified Member of the Appraisers Association of America and a Certified Appraiser of Personal Property with the International Society of Appraisers. Michelle is a USPAP-compliant appraiser specializing in appraising fine and decorative art - including American and European paintings, sculpture, works on paper, antiques, furniture, silver, and ceramics, as well as general household contents. With over a decade of art market experience, Michelle provides values for insurance coverage, damage and loss claims, resale, donations, family division, and estate tax liability. She has an in-depth knowledge of complex appraisal methodology and can also provide appraisal reviews.

Michelle began her career managing New York’s prestigious Winter Antiques Show. She went on to work as a fine and decorative art specialist at Cowan’s Auctions in Cincinnati, Ohio. Michelle received a BA in Art History from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia and an MA in American Fine and Decorative Arts from Sotheby’s Institute of Art in New York.
