Appraiser's Statement
Dr. Tom Folk is a well known appraiser and scholar who brings extensive experience to each project. Holding a PhD in Art History and experienced as a Museum Curator, College Professor, Fine Arts Dealer and Appraiser, Dr. Folk provides a highly personalized approach to developing collections, planning estates and valuing fine art. Dr Folk is Certified by AAA in: • American Painting & Sculpture; • 19th C European Painting & Sculpture; • American Pottery and Porcelain; • 20th Century Furniture and Design; and, • Personal Property (General Art & Antiques). Dr. Folk has developed and taught courses in the Appraisal Studies Program at NYU, and has produced and taught many programs for the Appraisers' Association in both Fine and Decorative Arts. He has recently published books and articles on 20th Century Design topics. His book on Waylande Gregory (Univ. of Richmond Museums: 2013) has become the acclaimed monograph on one of America's leading ceramic artists. Dr. Folk is an acknowledged expert in American Art and the “go to” authority on the Pennsylvania Impressionists. He is presently preparing the Catalogue Raisonne on Edward W. Redfield, the leading artist of this group. He is also a specialist in American Illustration appraisals and has worked on such artists as Thomas Nast, A. B. Frost and many others. Dr. Folk brings to each appraisal a high level of scholarship and connoisseurship through research and extensive networking with collectors and experts in the Fine and Decorative Arts fields.
