Appraiser's Statement

Andra Russek is a distinguished gallerist and appraiser specializing in the field of fine art photography, with a career spanning over two decades. She began her journey in the art world in 2000 as an assistant in the conservation department at the George Eastman House, Museum of Photography, where she laid the foundation for her expertise in fine art photography.

From 2002 to 2005, Andra further honed her skills as a Specialist at Swann Galleries in New York, where she gained invaluable experience in the auction house environment. In 2005, she transitioned to Sotheby’s New York, joining the Photographs Department as a Specialist and Senior Cataloguer. During her tenure at Sotheby’s, Andra played a crucial role in cataloguing and valuing photographs for several significant sales each year. She worked on high-profile auctions, including "Important Photographs from The Metropolitan Museum of Art," which featured works from the Gilman Paper Company Collection, and "Photographs from the Private Collection of Margaret W. Weston."

Andra is currently the Director of Scheinbaum & Russek Ltd, a gallery specializing in 20th century and contemporary photography.  Andra has been a Certified member of the Appraisers Association of America since 2013.  As an appraiser and collections manager, she does significant appraisal work for donation, estate, and insurance.  Andra has worked closely with private collectors to catalogue and document their collections.  She currently manages an extensive private collection with over 3,000 photographs.  

In addition to her gallery and appraisal work, Andra is an active member of the photography community.  Her gallery, Scheinbaum & Russek Ltd, is a member of the Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD).  As a member of AIPAD, Andra serves on the board as Secretary and is the Chair of the Education Committee.
