Appraiser's Statement
I am an appraiser and expert on fine old violins, violas, cellos and their bows, drawing upon 35 years experience in the field, 25 of them at the distinguished firm of William Moennig & Son, Ltd. of Philadelphia, at the time one of the world''s leading dealerships. These experiences have given me a sound understanding of the marketplace for instruments, relative values and factors that can affect values, as well as a good working association with colleagues worldwide. I am also a writer and historian on fine stringed instruments; I have advised and contributed book chapters to exhibition committees and have spoken before numerous international conferences on violins and bows. In 2002 I stepped away from the commerce of musical instruments, and since 2005 have served as Curator of the collection of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.
