Appraiser's Statement
Specializing in American paintings and prints of the 18th to mid-20th centuries with a secondary focus on Marine art and the China Trade, Monica has over 25 years of experience in the field and is a USPAP-compliant independent appraiser.
She began her career as a graduate of the Sotheby’s American Arts Course, where she received the class award for excellence. Afterwards she joined Northeast Auctions by Ronald Bourgeault in Portsmouth, NH, working closely with Carl Crossman, noted paintings and China Trade expert, and eventually becoming the auction house’s Fine Arts specialist responsible for the research, cataloging, appraisal and sale of private and public collections.
She is a member of the Museum of Old Newbury’s Board of Directors and its Collections Committee, as well as being the Treasurer and past-President of the Piscataqua Decorative Arts Society. Monica has lectured on a number of topics, including early American portraiture, Chinese Export painting, Cecilia Beaux, and the 19th century landscape art inspired by Massachusett's Great Marsh.
